The patriot beard : an heroi-comic poem in 3 cantos. [ca. 1784]

Manuscript poem in 3 cantos originally laid in a copy of Charlotte, an elegy, by the Marquis of Westminster, Robert Grosvenor. A note at the top of the poem recounts that the "following verses were written soon after the Westminster Election in 1784, in consequence of a Paragraph that appear'd in a newspaper insinuating that" Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire "had been punish'd by the sudden growth of a Beard" for exchanging kisses for votes in favor of Charles James Fox. The lines are numbered and notes on poetic influences are included at the end of each canto.
